Chicago Hut

We tried out a new restaurant tonight in Pekin. It is next to our pet store and Brad was eyeing the place the other night when we were buying some dog food. It is called Chicago Hut and is on Court St. in Pekin next to Food Depot and Pet Supplies "Plus". The menu is an interesting mix...gyros, chicago hot dogs, italian beef, tacos, homemade soups, salads, paninis. Pretty reasonably priced - the meals were $6-8 and include fries and a drink.
I got the italian beef sandwich meal and B got the italian combo meal, which was the italian beef with a sausage in there as well. The portions were HUGE! Giant sandwiches with melted mozzarella cheese and sweet peppers on the side and big piles of fries. The fries were fantastic - B voted them the best fries in Pekin. And the meat was great as well.
The place appears to be run by a mexican family, as dad and all the boys were working, which who knew that mexicans cooked good greek food, but whatever they're doing, they're making some good food. As my grandpa would say, "they're doin' a business".

  1. I love a good Italian beef. I think Vertucci's has my favorite that I have had around here so far. We will have to check out this place.

  2. Chicago Hut is Todd's FAVORITE restaurant!! You can frequently find us there on Sunday afternoons, boxing up leftovers for Sunday evening snacks!

The owners are a married blend of Greek & Hispanic and when Mom/Grandma is around, she's super nice and will always ask about the kids and school and such!

  3. So Tanya, what are your favorites there? I have a feeling that this is someplace we will be returning to. There was something called a "super taco"...I don't think I can resist going back and trying something called a super taco.
